The bulb in my projector just burned out after 3000 hours and before dropping $300 on a new one I was wondering about the feasibility of adapting LEDs.  Assuming/ignoring factors such as focusing the light, powering the LEDs, or physically adapting the LEDs to the projector, how many LEDs would you need to pump out somewhere between 800 and 2000 lumens?  I'll leave the LED being used up to you, considering any suggestion on my part would be ill-informed.

thanks,
potsked

$300 for a new proper bulb would cost less than what you would spend on LEDs alone in some sort of retrofit replacement - on the other hand, if spending 2x or 3x that amount, for a "bulb" that would outlast the projector - perhaps it is not a bad trade off.

be sure to visit www.laminaceramics.com for some good reading on really bright (and large) LED arrays

You might want to invest in purchasing a LED projector. Checkout very detailed search on LED projectors by Toshiba, Samsung, Mitsubishi and ViewSonic.
