check it out ... this LED is faintly glowing, without any power or ground connections

Was it some how energized by the high-power flash on my camera?

I just noticed the same thing, with piranha style leds, on an array I built:

It's possible.

LEDs are also photovoltaic cells (just not real good ones). Shine a light on them and you can measure a potential--in this case you flashed it with a very bright light, it seems plausible to me.
