This is a great article. It manages to explain why solid-state lighting will dominate without resorting to engineering jargon.

Key takeaway:

In fact, white LEDs will still be about twice as much, but the price of the total fixture will be roughly equal because of the vastly simpler power supply used by the white LED fixture.

Also, they seem to consistently spell fluorescent as florescent, which puzzles me.
