The picture is definitely worth 1000 words here:
How about it, gang, would you want this in your bathroom?

interesting ... poly plastic though, thats craptastic... how about translucent quartz, or frosted glass
hehe... the brighthandle gives me an idea
how about LED illuminated handles on your hot and cold water taps, or for those single handle faucets, a bicolor led that shifts from blue to red depending on the temp you choose

Oooh, yeah, how about LM335 temp sensor -> two comparators -> bicolor red/blue LED that indicates the water temp.
I need to get an LM335, but I have all the rest of the junk to prototype that...

hah, sounds like another time-parasite project
where would you place the temp sensor... I'm thinking best place would be to epoxy it to the mixer valve output tube/hose... wouldn't be extremely accurate, but that wouldn't much matter in this case

Precisely, because the comparator setpoints would be on trimmers.

I firmly believe this link is the result of someone seeing the Galactika and fancying they could DIY:

in this months issue of Robb Report Home they have a tap set that changes color of the water depending on the temp... Blue for cold and purpleish red for hot... nice peice i have seen it in real life. one flaw is when lighting is too stong in the bathroom then you cant see the color of the water.

Just remember your plumbers name is Fill, Shiret Rolls down Hill, and your sparky has no idea what LED's are.

Was it
Hansa Canyon
by any chance? I totally adore that thing. There are also cheaper/less stylish versions like
Equa Light Delight
and the
poor man's version
for less that 20 bucks at thinkgeek.. Gotta love it!

Not sure about the toilet or sink, but the bath looks ace.
The red/blue temp indicator could illuminate the water stream - that would look pretty good
