Hi all --

Long time lurker, first time poster.  I'm posting because while I've been trying to learn from the rest of you here, I'm still a bit unsteady on my feet regarding electronics and LED's.

I'm building a sci-fi model.  Inside, it has a 32 LED chase circuit board that runs off a 9v battery.  The circuit has 4 lights on simultaniously (sp?), starting with one light at 12 o'clock, one light at 3 o'clock, one at 6 o'clock, and one at 9 o'clock.  These all light at the exact same time, and the move forward to the next light and do the same thing, simulating a chase mode.  I also have two 4" CCFL lamps running off an inverter that gets it's power from a 12v 200ma wall transformer / plug.

I'd like to splice some voltage off the power transformer, and also power the LED chase circuit rather than using the included 9v battery connector.  I don't have any specifics about the chase circuit as I purchased it about 5 years ago assembled.  I know the inverter will power up to two 12" CCFL lamps, so I should have the ma's to do this,  but I don't want to burn up the chase circuit.  I've been told that I could just put a 480 ohm reisitor in-line to the chase circuit, but would like to solicit other opinions in the hopes of NOT burning up my chase circuit.

Any help will be appreciated!  And thanks for all the advice I've previously siphoned from this website!

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum!

I'm light on electronics expertise compared to nearly everyone here, but what you're describing should work... I think.  I'd wait for someone more knowledgeable to confirm that before trying that though.

I'm a-waitin' -- hopin' someone pops up with an answer!  Thanks for leaving your thoughts, though!

CD4017 outputs 0-3 and use output 4 to reset it.  LEDs 2 series strings of 2 with current limiting resistors.  they wont be very bright without external transistors
