I had a giant stack of scrap lumber from building the house. I built my beds from Douglas fir 2x12s that were 12 feet long.

Used aquarium water is excellent for plants. I'd say get a 4-foot shop light and get those seeds growing.

I have pics for all those garden entries, but I've been fooling with templates rather than uploading them, shame on me.

i suppose if the lumber's already paid for, why not, right?

I was looking at untreated fir vs treated (AAC?), wondering if the nearly 2x price difference is worth the longevity the treatment provides

I think current "state-of-the-art" raised beds would just be mounds of dirt wihtout sides. Or if you wanted to sink bucks into boxes, get some of that decking made from synthetic (sometimes recycled) material. Being in the right place at the right time (at the end of a deck installation) helps.

i got one better, you Want good lumber hit the Local new Apartmant construction lanes or any new housing Developement Sites, any scrap Lumber will Usually yeild some nice Planks and finnish pieces

so far I have built (4) 78"Lx23"Wx18" Deep flowering planters out Of 9.5" Wide x2"thick lumber alternating With 11"x4" Beam Cutoffs from the local housing that went in here in Portland

and I Picked up on 32 Brand new gridded UNTempered 32"x27" Double paned Unframed Windows for nothing as they were Installed against code and needed to be refitted in order to pass Inspection, So Now I have the Makings for My green house.

So check it Out if you get a chance, it helps to keep the good Lumber out of the landfills and what you dont use or cant use makes for great Clean Burning Fuel for the Winter to come
