I'll find out this week...I think perhaps not, at least not what you are used to per lumen.  Most of what we have seen is from the "light engine" manufacturers, not the semiconductor houses at these levels.

If we look at the Rebels for a baseline we get 100s capable of putting out 180lm@700mA for $6.60 at Future.  6 of them cost $40 to get 1000Lm so I am guessing that it will be $50 or less, probably around half that.  The logic here is that they need to compete with what is on the market for discretes not engines.

Unfortunately there is no apples to apples to make when you can not find a data sheet.  I have to assume that the 1000Lm is at max drive.  The 350mA numbers listed are typical for the high efficiency point, so my suspicion is what the press release is going on about are the two common bragging points and that they do not coincide.

I will venture a guess that the die are all in series for a 21V part at 350mA and 75Lm/W for a 550Lm output and that the 1000Lm level is around 50Lm/W.

cooling the 2-3 watt rebel is a challenge - how will mere mortals without fabrication shops even being to contemplate cooling something ten plus watts?

:brow:They are showing a star-type of package. They must have the heat problem figured out. I would attach it to a copper slug that's been drilled, threaded,& soldered onto one of my home-made heat sinks.(remember the pennies soldered onto a .205" copper rod) I've already made another set of 4,never got around to ordering another fan yet. Even at 30 bucks a pop, they would save me a lot of monkeying around. I'd like a 1000lm single point light source, could use a much smaller lamp hsg.

Got a data sheet: 50Lm/W @ 22.5V/700mA and 65Lm/W @ 18.5V/350mA with TR of 3C/W

luminous flux at 700mA: 610 to 1120 (lumens?) ... that seems like a wide range for the output bins.  I wonder what bin Digikey is selling from for $45?

That is an interesting question that I had on my mind as well.  Bet it isn't a good one!

doesn't strike me as a bargain. looks like a heat sink w/a fan would be required.

At 15+W in a star you can count on a heat sink, though a fan is debatable.

I could see a wall mount at 18W with this 3" $3 (I got a qty quote for $3 at 4") heat sink and a reflector directing the light to the ceiling without a fan.  at 18W and 3 C/W for the star and 1.5 C/W for the sink you would get and 80 C rise to the die, or a 130 C die at 122 F ambient.
