Gday!

I was wondering if I could safely attach my stereo speakers directly to my computer to replace the current ones without an amplifier or any extras? or could it harm the sound card because of the difference in the speaker's ohms? The photo below is of the stereo speakers that I want to use.

All help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!  Wink

I dont think you'll get much sound that way ... unless you specifically bought your sound card with an amplifier on board, 99% of them ship with only a pre-amp (headphone and line-level output).

Could it damage the card, possible, but I doubt it, the preamp is likely protected from impedance mismatch and overload.

NO
please dont do that

go grab a T-amp from parts express (30 bucks)
you can mod it and it'll run off batteries or 12v

its a great little amp - some say better sound then $3000 tubes
no i'm not joking either

Thanks for warning before it was toolate!   Grin

What if I opened up my computer's ones, and de soldered the speaker and directly connected the stereo spks to the same wires? dose that sounds like it would work?  Thanks again!  Smiley

yeah you could do that
or at least look to see if you can use the internal amp

6ohms is ok - but 16 ohms is too much

most computer speakers are 4 ohm and also have a low-pass cap installed somewhere so that the speakers dont blow on low low bass (normaly 50hz and lower) depending on the speaker
cheap speakers have cheap amps 1-5 watt wich is not much

i've hacked computer speakers for the amp in the past - pretty easy and effective

is one project

enjoy
